Evaluating Anki - An Opensource Flashcard Application

Contrary to other flashcard apps, Anki provides a learning algorithm that allows for easier learning of complex concepts in areas ranging from algebra all the way to language learning.

The application itself allows for extensive customization such as text alignment, card color, and adding images. The app uses a spaced-repetition algorithm, which introduces new cards to the user at a customizable frequency, often repeating previously studied cards to test the user's knowledge. This method of learning allows for more long-term retention of large amounts of information, which is helpful for language learners.

In terms of functionality, the application is suited for individual student use, rather than by a teacher in a classroom setting. This application is relatively easy to use, with a simple interface that allows for customization of learning outcomes and access to statistics surrounding the user's study history.

Anki is available for both Windows and Mac, and is a free software for people to enjoy, free of any subscription fees. Anki for mobile devices has a one-time fee of $25 USD.
Instead of using premade decks, Anki requires the user to create their own flashcards to their liking, allowing them to adapt and change the content to the level of difficulty that suits their learning strengths and weaknesses.
The application can be used on a laptop or desktop computer, as well as on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets that have access to the internet. Internet is required for initial account creation, login, and deck sharing, but is not required for studying and creating decks.
Studying on more than one device will require consistent syncing of decks to ensure proper studying. Unlike other flashcard applications and software, Anki does not have a web browser version and must therefore be downloaded through their website, however, the software itself does not require any additional extensions or secondary software to run properly.

AnkiApp - The best flashcard app to learn languages and more.

Overall, although the software takes a little time to get used to, Anki can be a powerful tool for students to retain knowledge learned in classrooms long-term. It allows for more effective information retention, and if used as an additional tool outside the classroom, can boost students' learning capabilities and enhance their fluency in their target languages.
